Hamas-Fatah deal 'chance for peace'

The rival Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas, say they have agreed to form a new unity government, seven years after a damaging rift over control of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Prime Minister has cancelled peace talks with Fatah due to have been held this evening, after accusing its leader, President Mahmoud Abbas, of choosing peace with Hamas rather than Israel.

But Mustafa Barghouti, an independent member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and part of the delegation that helped negotiate the agreement, says that uniting the Palestinian people increases chance of peace.
