Peshawar blast targets US consulate vehicles

The Taliban have said they were behind the bombing of a US consulate convoy in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.

Two armoured vehicles were travelling on University Road when the blast happened.

The US embassy said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber on a motorbike. Earlier, Pakistani police had said it was a roadside bomb.

Orla Guerin in Islamabad explains what happened.
