Alaska governor's 'deep sadness' at Stevens' death

Alaskan Governor Sean Parnell has spoken of his "deep sadness" at the death of former Senator Ted Stevens in a plane crash.

Mr Parnell paid tribute to the long-serving lawmaker, who he described as a "lion" and a "true Alaskan".

Former Senator Stevens was killed along with four others when a small plane carrying nine people came down about 20 miles (32km) north of Dillingham, Alaska.

Former Nasa chief Sean O'Keefe was also aboard the plane but survived, according to reports.
