US passes legislation to bolster border security

The US Senate has passed new legislation aimed at stemming the flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico and stopping the activities of illegal drug runners across the border.

The new law comes before Congressional elections in November, and will seek to disrupt the heavily armed gangs trafficking cocaine. From Washington, the BBC's Steve Kingstone reports.
