Obama defends plan for mosque near Ground Zero

President Barack Obama has defended controversial plans to build a mosque near the site of the 9/11 attacks in New York.

Opponents say the plan is disrespectful and insensitive to the memory of the dead.

But the president, speaking at a White House event to mark the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, said he believed Muslims had the same right to practise their religion as anyone else.
