Middle East talks in Washington 'constructive'

Israeli and Palestinian leaders have pledged to meet in the Middle East in a fortnight, following their first direct talks in nearly two years in Washington.

The US Middle East envoy, George Mitchell, hailed the negotiations as constructive but the Palestinian militant group Hamas has vowed to step up attacks on Israel.
