Obama defends tax cuts decision

President Barack Obama has defended his decision to reach a deal with Republicans over tax cuts for the wealthy.

The Bush-era tax cuts were due to expire at the end of the year, but the President was forced to compromise after his Democratic Party suffered heavy losses in November's mid-term elections.

President Obama said he remained opposed to what he called "unaffordable" tax cuts but didn't want a long protracted battle with the Republicans.
