Tim Pawlenty: "We need to restore American common sense."

Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty delivers a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington DC, saying American common sense needs to be restored.

Pawlenty, governor of Minnesota from 2003 to 2011, is thought to have been among John McCain's top choices as a vice-presidential running mate in 2008.

The conference is widely seen as the unofficial start of the race to win the Republican Party's nomination to run in the 2012 presidential election.

Two of the frontrunners for the nomination, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, decided not to speak at the conference, which is attended mostly by young supporters of the Republican Party.
