Clinton seeks 'peaceful and stable' transition in N Korea

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that both the US and Japan share an interest in a peaceful, stable transition in North Korea.

She made the comments after meeting her Japanese counterpart, Koichiro Gemba, in Washington, and also expressed hope for better relations with the North Korean people.

North Korean state television has announced that leader Kim Jong-il has died at the age of 69.
