US jet crash: "I saw a pilot on the ground with facial lacerations"

A US Navy jet has crashed into a low rise apartment complex in the American state of Virginia, 200 miles south of Washington DC.

The pilots of the F-18 are believed to have ejected from the plane before it struck the buildings in Virginia Beach.

The area contains a number of military bases including Naval Station Norfolk, which is the largest naval base in the world.

One eyewitness explains how he helped to rescue a pilot found at the scene.
