Obama: 'We cannot be complacent in defence of freedom'

US President Barack Obama has restated his county's "unwavering commitment" to defend the freedom of democratic states in eastern Europe, following Russia's annexation of Crimea.

"We stand together now and forever, for your freedom is ours", the president told delegates and crowds gathered to hear him speak in Warsaw.

His comments came as he visited Poland to mark the 25th anniversary of the end of communism there.
