Obama: 'Make progress' for Americans

US President Barack Obama has said he will look for areas of bipartisan co-operation during a meeting with Republican Congressional leaders.

The White House held cross-party talks with leaders in the House of Representatives and Senate on Friday.

The meeting followed a Democratic drubbing on Tuesday in which Republicans made huge gains in both congressional chambers in the mid-term elections.

As the lunch began, Mr Obama said it "gives us a good opportunity to explore where we can make progress on behalf of the people who sent us here".
