Kirby: IS killing a 'grim reminder'

Jordan has confirmed the death of pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh after a video published online by Islamic State (IS) claimed to show him being burned alive.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm John Kirby says the US sends condolences to the pilot's family and to ally Jordan, and that the killing was a "grim reminder" of how important US-led coalition attacks on IS were.

Adm Kirby said the air bombardment had been effective "in changing the nature of this group" and that IS was "in a much more defensive crouch" than they were before.
