US President Barack Obama: 'We have to make cyber space safer'

US President Barack Obama has urged technology companies to give the government greater help to improve cyber security.

At a White House-sponsored meeting at Stanford University, Mr Obama said cyber threats posed a challenge to national security, public safety and the economy.

He called on private companies to share more information with each other, and the security services.

''We have to make cyber-space safer,'' he said. ''We have to improve co-operation across the board.''
