US Blackwater guards jailed for Iraq deaths

Four former guards from the private security firm Blackwater have been jailed over the killing of 14 Iraqi civilians in 2007.

They had claimed they were under fire from insurgents as they escorted a diplomatic convoy, but the court in Washington DC found them guilty of an unprovoked attack on unarmed civilians.

Nicholas Slatten has been sentenced to life in prison, while Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Heard were all sentenced to 30 years in prison for their involvement in the killings.

Catharina Moh reports.
