Obama says he 'regrets' hostage deaths in al-Qaeda raid

The United States has announced that two hostages were killed in a counter-terrorism operation in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The two, Warren Weinstein, an American, and Giovanni Lo Porto, an Italian, had been held by al-Qaeda for several years.

The family of Warren Weinstein criticised both the American and Pakistani governments for their lack of assistance after his capture.

North America editor Jon Sopel reports.
