Charleston attack funeral: Obama speaks out on Confederate flag

US President Obama has urged an end to the flying of the Confederate flag, at the funeral for one of the victims of the Charleston shooting.

The tragedy has reignited debate about race relations and sparked a backlash against the flag, which was seen in photographs of the suspected gunman, 21-year-old Dylann Roof.

Delivering a eulogy for the Reverend Clementa Pinckney, the president said that for many, the flag "was a reminder of systemic oppression and racial subjugation".
