Obama tells UN: Syria's Assad must go

US President Barack Obama says the United States is willing to work with Russia and Iran to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power.

Addressing the United Nations General assembly, Mr Obama called for a "managed transition" of leadership in the war-torn country.

Syria cannot "return to the pre-war status quo," Mr Obama said during his speech.
