Queen's Baton Relay: Maldives crisis and the relay
- Published
Days after it was reported that police in the Maldives stopped a planned re-run of elections it has been announced that the Queen's Baton Relay will only spend two hours in the country.
The Queen's Baton Relay was due to spend two days in the Maldives but will now only stay for a short time.
The baton will be welcomed in the Maldives by the country's sporting chiefs and athletes.
A spokesperson for Glasgow 2014 said: "We are delighted the Maldives Olympic Association is hosting the Queen's Baton and that the Maldives will have an opportunity to be part of the special journey the baton is making to every nation and territory of the Commonwealth."
It will then fly on to Singapore, the next stop on the baton's journey around the Commonwealth.
