(Close): US stocks declined for a second day after a labour market survey produced a weaker-than-expected result.

A survey of private employers by ADP said companies added 212,000 jobs in February, below forecasts of 220,000. The survey comes ahead of the key non-farm payrolls figures due on Friday.

The Dow Jones fell 106.47 points to 18,096.90, while the S&P 500 dropped 9.25 points to 2,098.53.

The Nasdaq index was 12.76 points lower at 4,967.14.

Shares in Abercrombie & Fitch dropped 15.5% after it reported a fall in sales during the quarter to 31 January.

The clothing retailer said total comparable sales fell 10% in the quarter, with the strong dollar being blamed for some of the fall.
