Stocks on Wall Street were flat on Monday, continuing a streak of days with little change in the markets.

Bag-makers Coach and its smaller, preppy rival Kate Spade both gained on news of a merger, but overall the markets held steady.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 5 points, or 0.02%, to 21,011.94.

The S&P 500 rose .08 points or 0% to 2,399.37, while the Nasdaq index dropped 1.9 points or .03% to 6,102.66.

The euro briefly jumped to a six-month high against the dollar in the immediate aftermath of the victory of centrist Emmanuel Macron in France. But after rising above the $1.10 mark the euro then fell back to $1.09.

On the stock market, energy and IT stocks increased, offset by declines in sectors such as health care.

Shares in handbag maker Kate Spade jumped about 8%, while Coach shares climbed almost 5%.
