Robert Wilson, bassist with funk and R&B group the Gap Band, has died at the age of 53.
His publicist, Karen Lee, confirmed the news. Wilson had been on tour in the US during the past few weeks.
Wilson was joined in the band by his brothers, Charlie Wilson, the lead singer, and drummer Ronnie Wilson, who formed the band when he was 14.
The group scored UK hits in the 1980s with Oops Up Side Your Head, Big Fun and Party Lights.
The trio grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and soon began honing their musical talent singing and playing in their father's Pentecostal church.
Robert Wilson, the youngest of the three, was asked to join the group by brother Ronnie after the original bass player quit.
