A US movie dramatisation of Prince William and Kate Middleton's romance is to be shown on Channel 5.

William & Kate: The Movie will be shown by the channel as part of its royal wedding coverage this month.

The film chronicles the couple's nine-year-relationship from when they first met at the University of St Andrews.

Unknown actors Nico Evers-Swindell and Camilla Luddington star in the lead roles with Chariots Of Fire actor Ben Cross starring as the Prince of Wales.

Katie Keenan, Channel 5's head of acquisitions, said: "The William and Kate movie has sparked worldwide interest and anticipation and we are really pleased that Channel 5 will be able to offer viewers its UK TV premiere."

The TV movie will be broadcast in the US on 18 April, 11 days before the royal wedding, on the Lifetime TV network.

Meanwhile, BBC soap EastEnders will feature characters celebrating the big event.

A BBC spokeswoman said producers were hoping to intercut its filmed scenes with actual footage from the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
