Ed Sheeran continues UK chart reign

Ed Sheeran's record X has topped the UK album chart for a sixth week.

The singer's second studio album is the longest consecutive chart-topper for a British male solo act since James Blunt's Back to Bedlam eight-week run in 2005.

In the singles chart, Canadian reggae fusion band Magic! climbed one place to score their first number one hit with their track Rude.

It toppled Cheryl Cole's Crazy Stupid Love, pushing it back to second place.

Rude first entered the chart four weeks ago, based solely on audio streams, and jumped 48 places to number two last week upon its official release.

According to the Official Charts Company, this week the song was streamed 1.4 million times - 16% of its overall sales tally.

Clapton tribute

The highest new entry in the chart was from dance producer Zhu at three with Faded, while former X Factor finalist Ella Henderson spent a an eighth week in the top five with her debut single Ghost at four.

Britain's Got Talent finalists Bars and Melody - made up of 15-year-old Charlie Lenehan and 13-year-old Leondre Devries - scored their first UK top 40 hit with Hopeful, which they performed on the TV show.

The track, which debuted at number five, was the biggest selling physical single of the week.

Elsewhere in the album chart, Dolly Parton's Blue Smoke - The Best Of held firm at number two.

Eric Clapton and Friends was the highest new entry at three with The Breeze - a tribute to the late US singer-songwriter JJ Cale.

Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour and George Ezra's Wanted on Voyage were are four and five respectively.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers also scored their highest charting UK album in 23 years with Hypnotic Eye at seven.
