'Knotted gun' sculptor Carl Fredrik Reutersward dies aged 81
Carl Fredrik Reutersward, one of Sweden's best-known modern artists, has died at the age of 81.
Reutersward was most famous for his iconic Non Violence sculpture, which he created following John Lennon's death.
The statue - a Colt Magnum revolver with its barrel tied in a knot - stands outside the UN building in New York.
Versions of it can be found in several other cities, including Cape Town, Stockholm, Beijing and Lausanne, where he once lived.
Reutersward, who suffered a stroke in 1989, died in a hospital in Helsingborg, Sweden, on Tuesday.
The artist, who was a friend of Lennon and created Non Violence after the former Beatle was shot dead in 1980, also published several collections of poetry.
Daniel Birnbaum, director of Stockholm's Moderna Museet, said Reutersward played a key role in establishing modern art in Sweden.
