Dozens of fans, well-wishers and press hoping for a glimpse of the couple gathered on the steps of Old Marylebone Town Hall, the same venue where Sir Paul married first wife Linda Eastman 42 years ago. Barricades were eventually set up to clear a path for their arrival and exit as man and wife.

Garden furniture and bouquets of flowers had been delivered to the north London home of the former Beatle on Saturday. Reports suggested Sir Paul's daughter Stella designed her new stepmother's wedding dress and took a role in creating menus for the reception.
