Each week we publish a gallery of readers' pictures on a set theme. This week the theme is Japan and we begin with a photo sent in by Tom and Armandina of the dramatic torii of Itsukushima.

Charles Tyack: "This may look like the Eiffel Tower, but it's Japan's take on the tower, and took the crown as tallest tower in the world when it was built in 1958."

Cathy Oxby: "This was taken at Tskiji fish market in Tokyo. It is fascinating to see the vast array of colours, shapes and sizes that come from the deep."

Damien Devaux: "Me, tired and jet-lagged, trying to get some sleep at the Green Plaza capsule hotel, Shinjuku, Tokyo."

Edward Krzywdzinski: "An almost surreal, yet beautiful, scene from the Tokyo Tower observation deck of the city below, seemingly spreading out to infinity."

Steve McQueen: "I was coming down an escalator which gave a great vantage point for the shot. As I rushed to get the camera out of my pocket, the bride threw her bouquet of flowers just as I pressed the button to take the photo."

Jason Pemberton: "Ema wish tablets with Manga style characters left at Kanda Myojin Shinto Shrine in Tokyo, Japan."
