This week saw protests erupt in reaction to Turkey's worst mine disaster which happened in the town of Soma. Burcu Kutlu took this photo of the start of demonstrations for the Turkish coal miners in Kizilay Square, Ankara.

Smoke clouds engulfed the sky as hot, dry temperatures caused wildfires to take hold across San Diego county, California. The conditions caused fires to rage out of control. Simon De Gruchy took the photo from his home in Carlsbad.

On Thursday, Egyptians abroad went to their embassies and participated in the presidential election. Muhammad Hammad captured voters in jubilant mood outside the Egyptian embassy in Riyadh.
Bosnia and Serbia were hit by severe flooding earlier in the week. Emir Saric sent this photo of people who were stranded and surrounded by floodwater in the Bosnian Town of Doboj.
Mihajlo Andric sent this photo which shows the extent of the flooding in the Serbian town of Osecina.
And on Friday 16 May, Narenda Modi led his BJP party to victory at the general election in India. Other big winners included the Trinamool Congress party. Bhaskar Mallick sent in these pictures of supporters celebrating outside the counting centre in Kolkata.
