President Barack Obama pledged $1bn (£600m) to increase US military deployments in Europe. He made the announcement during a visit to Poland where Ivonna Nowicka took this photo waiting for him to emerge from the presidential palace in Warsaw. Ivonna says she had been worried recently by the "destabilising influence" of Russia in eastern Ukraine and Crimea, and found Mr Obama's pledge comforting as a show of solidarity with Nato countries.

On 3 June 1989 hundreds of civilians were shot dead by the army in China's Tiananmen Square, following six weeks of pro-democracy protests. The 25th anniversary of those protests has been marked with a vigil in Hong Kong. Matt Haslam attended the vigil and sent us the photo above.

Parts of Wales were battered by heavy rain and storms on Friday night into Saturday. The Met Office issued yellow "be aware" rain warnings for all counties except Pembrokeshire. Alan Hopper took this photo of a lightning strike over Denbigh in north Wales at about 08:30 BST on Saturday.

A swimming pool and clubhouse at a former holiday park in Brixham, Devon caught fire in an apparent arson attack on Thursday. No-one is thought to have been hurt but Wall Park Road was closed for nearly five hours and people were advised to stay indoors to avoid the smoke. Photo by Tina Stockman.

People around the world have been celebrating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings when thousands of Allied troops landed on the French coast during World War Two.
