  1. Fly-tipping fines set to double

    Alex Harris

    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

The fine for fly-tipping in East Cambridgeshire could double if councillors agree to introduce fixed-term penalties at the maximum level allowed.

More than 200 cases of fly tipping were cleared up by the district council last year at a cost of more than £64,000.

A meeting of the regulatory services committee later will hear that fixed-term penalties provide a quicker route to prosecuting fly-tippers than going through the courts.

Council officers say raising the fine to the maximum £400 will enable the authority to recover cost of dealing with fly-tips, but also act as a deterrent.

  2. Today's weather: Mainly dry

    BBC Weather

After a cold and frosty start, any patchy mist or fog will quickly clear leaving a dry and mostly sunny day, although cloud could thicken across some western parts later.

    Maximum temperature: 10C (50F).
