  2. Motorway sliproad to remain closed until tomorrow

We have just been told by Moto, the company that runs Toddington services on the M1, that the slip road to the southbound services will remain closed until lunchtime on Saturday.

A lorry hit a raised curb on the way in on the slip road, cracking the fuel tank.

It left 600L (132 gallons) of fuel over the road all the way through the station before re-joining the motorway.

The contaminated area is extensive and a clean-up operation is under way.

    Diesel spillage

The slip road has been closed to traffic all day, meaning no one can access the site from the motorway.

  3. The weekend weather: Warm, with sunny intervals

    Julie Reinger

    BBC Look East weather

A dry and cloudy night, with some clear intervals.

Feeling warm and humid for the time of the year, with temperatures only falling to 13C (55F).

Saturday will be mostly dry with a fair amount of cloud, but there should be some bright or sunny intervals.

The moderate SW wind should eventually fall light, and temperatures should reach around 20C (68F).

Another dry day for Sunday, with more in the way of sunshine - although high cloud may turn it hazy at times.

Temperatures could climb to 24C (75F).

Looking ahead to Mnoday - it's expected to remain largely dry and warm, with sunny spells. There's some uncertainty as to when a cold front will push in from the west, bringing the risk of a few showers and cooler air.

  4. M1 to close tonight for 'investigative' work

Parts of the M1 will be closed in Bedfordshire this evening for a second night, so emergency gantry work can get under way.

The northbound carriageway will be shut between Junction 11 for Luton and Junction 13 for Bedford between 22:00 on Friday night and 05:00 on Saturday morning.

Highways England says the work is being carried out after "routine maintenance, highlighted a potential concern" and they "need to investigate as quickly as possible."

    Diversions will be in place.

  14. Clean up crew at scene of motorway services diesel spill

    Usman Azad

    BBC Three Counties Radio

I've been to the southbound Toddington services to see for myself the impact a diesel spillage has had.

It happened at about 07:00, when a lorry hit a kerb and ruptured it's fuel tank, pouring diesel along the road.

The spillage is currently being assessed by a clean up crew.

While this takes place, the slip road leading to the services on the M1 remains closed, meaning no one can get in, but I was able to access it by going to the northbound services and walking over the bridge to the other side.
