  3. Jobs focus for Goodyear taskforce

    Members of a taskforce have been meeting today to discuss the next step for Goodyear workers in Wolverhampton.

    The group was originally set up to help campaign to save the factory - but bosses at the tyre firm announced on Tuesday that it will close for good in 2017

    The focus will now turn to helping find other jobs for the 330 workers - who will be made redundant.

  5. Big Hoot parliament this weekend

    Birmingham's Big Hoot owl sculptures are to come together for the first time this weekend, before being auctioned off for charity.

    Eighty nine of the sculptures were sited across the city and further afield as   more than 13,000 people downloaded the owl trial app before they were removed last month.

    The owls will appear at Millennium Point,on Saturday and Sunday for the last time, before being sold on 15 October.  

    Organisers are hoping to raise £500,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

  9. Birmingham leader defiant over leadership criticism

    The Leader of Birmingham City Council has defended his position after a senior colleague stepped down over his leadership.

    On Monday James McKay, who was responsible for inclusion and community safety, posted a resignation letter on his Twitter feed.

    He praised Sir Albert Bore's contribution over the years but says he doesn't think he's the right man to make the changes the city needs.

  10. Football: Walsall prepare to face Burton Albion

    When Walsall and Burton Albion meet in League One on Saturday it will be a clash between the division's top two clubs.

    But it will be also a test for two of the most exciting managers in English football, Dean Smith and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. 

    Both clubs have recently turned down approaches from a Championship club who were keen to snap them up.

  11. Syrian families taken in by Tamworth

    Families of refugees fleeing war-torn Syria will be taken in by people in Tamworth, Tamworth Borough Council says.

    The are plans to accommodate up to 10 families, who will be able to access health, education, support services and housing in the town.

  14. Canal death 'not suspicious'

    A man, whose body was found in the canal in West Bromwich this morning, is not thought to have died in suspicious circumstances.

    He was discovered in the water near Albion Street shortly before 09:40.

    Sandwell Police said his body had been removed and the matter had been referred to the coroner.

  15. On air: Residents suffer water problems

    Elderly residents at a supported housing complex in Birmingham say they are fed up with poor facilities affecting their lives. 

    For the last nine days they've been unable to bath or shower because of no hot water. 

    The hot water is now back on but the residents want answers.

  16. Travel: A38 closed

    The A38 has been closed northbound in Weeford, between the A5 and the A5148 for Swinfen Island.

    It's because of a serious accident involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

    A body has been found in West Bromwich.

    The man's body was discovered this morning at Albion Road in the town centre.

  19. Slow traffic

    There's very slow traffic on M42 northbound between J5, A41 (Solihull) and J6, A45 (Birmingham Airport), because of an accident earlier on, BBC Travel News reports.

    Traffic is also slow traffic on the M6 northbound between J8 M5 and J9, A461 (Wednesbury), because of an accident earlier on. All lanes have been re-opened .

  21. Grand Central passes million-visitor landmark

    Grand Central, the new £150m complex in Birmingham city centre attracted more than one million people over its first few days of trading.

    Five years in the making, there are 66 new retailers and restaurants.

    The million-visitor milestone was passed on Wednesday evening and the numbers are set to increase steadily towards Christmas, the city council has said.

  22. Mailbox due to open on 22 October after £50m revamp

    The newly refurbished Mailbox is due to open on 22 October with the unveiling of its centrepiece "urban room", which will host events.

    Costing £50m, the revamp took two years to complete.

  24. Mother prepared to face court over scissor school

    A mum whose son was badly injured in a Wolverhampton school has told BBC WM she's willing to go to court to stop him being sent back there. 

    Ten-year-old Tyreece Wedderburn from Wednesfield was hurt when a teacher grabbed a pair of scissors from a pupil who was threatening another pupil - accidentally stabbing Tyreece in the arm.

  25. Goodyear taskforce could be set up

    A task force to help workers affected by the closure of the Goodyear plant in Wolverhampton will be up for discussion later - when the Unite union meets with the local council. 

    The company's been accused by the union of "betraying its workers".

    Earlier talks between the company and unions came to nothing - it's due to close by 2017 with the loss of more than 300 jobs.

  27. Man given four-year jail term in 2006 still in prison

    A father is calling for the release of his son who has served more than eight years in prison - despite only being jailed for four. 

    In 2006 Ishuba Salmon, from Birmingham, received an Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence for four years and four months. 

    The IPP sentences, introduced by Labour, were scrapped in 2012. The inmate's father Arnold Salmon says he should be set free.
