  1. MEP resigns from party as it 'heads in a different direction'

    West Midlands MEP Jim Carver is resigning from UKIP - saying he's found himself increasingly out of kilter with the party.

    Mr Carver, who lives in Worcestershire, says he'll see out his term in the European Parliament as an Independent.

  2. Van crash murder accused in court

    A man accused of murdering a van driver killed in a crash has appeared in court.

    Daniel Blount, 31, was fatally injured in the collision in Kingstanding, Birmingham, on 25 April and his two passengers were seriously hurt.

    Andre Thomas, 25, of Cradley Croft, Handsworth, Birmingham, is charged with murder.

    He remains in custody and will appear again at Birmingham Crown Court on 22 June.

  4. Plans over £4m motorway bypass unveiled

    A £4mi project to revitalise a controversial motorway bypass have been unveiled.

    The Western Orbital scheme – known as the Wolverhampton bypass – failed to be approved in the 1990s and 2000s over pollution fears.

    But now a West Midlands Combined Authority report has revealed that Midlands Connect is to use government funding to reignite the scheme.

    The 40-mile highway would cut through countryside at the M5 junction, 4a at Bromsgrove, to junction 2 of the M54.

    Maria Machancoses, Midlands Connect Director, said: "Our Midlands Motorway Hub study recommends undertaking more work to understand the economic and social case for a Western Strategic Route linking the M5 and M6, and is one of a wide range of proposals that requires further analysis."

  7. Digbeth stabbing: Police want to speak to these men

    A man was stabbed in a pub in Birmingham during the weekend.

    Two men police want to speak to

    The 20-year-old remains is a serious but stable condition after being stabbed multiple times in his chest and stomach.

    The incident took place at the Kerryman in Digbeth during the early hours of Saturday and police are looking for two men who may be able to help with inquiries.

    The Environment Agency say flood defences which have been put in on a flood plain in Birmingham are working.

    Residents living in Selly Oak have questioned why they've been flooded for the third time in nine years after Sunday's heavy rain.

    The Environment Agency say river defences are now in place but is working with the city council on plans to protect people from flash flooding.

  9. Shisha lounge closes after shooting

    A smoking lounge in Birmingham has been shutdown after a man was injured in a shooting there at the weekend.

    Shots were fired through the door of the Arabian Nites shisha lounge in Highgate in Birmingham.

    The licence will now have to be reviewed for the venue to reopen.

    After torrential rain hit parts of the region over the Bank Holiday, Birmingham City Council says it will analyse what happened and work out how to prevent further flooding.

    Selly Oak and Selly Park were particularly bad after thunderstorms caused flash flooding.

  15. Driver saved from drowning in flood water

    A drainage engineer who's being hailed as a hero hopes to meet up with the man he saved from drowning.

    Ben Lees, 25, was heading home on Sunday night when he was forced to take a different road in Walsall due to flooding.

    He spotted a submerged vehicle and dived into flood water to save a man who was trapped in his car.
