In Gloucestershire, a county-council fund of £50,000 to tackle period poverty for teenagers and women has been distributed to nine charities and community groups.

The grants allow the organisations to support women in ways such as leaving free sanitary products in community buildings so they are discreetly and easily accessible.

  14. Teen started fire at play park

Fire at Springfield Park play area

A teenage boy started a fire at a children's play area in Bristol.

Fire crews were called out to Springfield Park play area, in Mangotsfield, on 30 April. The blaze damaged equipment, along with the safety surface.

Avon and Somerset police confirmed a 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has admitted starting the fire and has been referred to the youth panel for a decision on how he will be dealt with.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Stuart Cumine said: “This irresponsible behaviour has destroyed play equipment used by local children. The incident also put unnecessary extra pressure on the emergency services.

“However this young man has done the right thing by taking responsibility for his actions. He has shown remorse and is keen to make amends.”

PS Cumine said he wants parents and carers to speak to their children about the impact of vandalism.
