Coventry Airport Canberra to be restored

Here's more on our earlier story:

The Canberra WK 163 first entered service in 1951 and broke the world altitude record in 1957 by flying at 70,308 ft - more than 13 miles above ground level.

In 1959 the plane was transferred to the Royal Radar Establishment and was used in developing infra-red line-scan technology to identify camouflaged ground targets.

It last flew in 2007 and most recently has been on display at Coventry Airport.

Gang members Anthony Collier, Darren Irwin and Thomas Rawbone were jailed for a combined total of more than 40 years after admitting conspiracy to rob.

A One Stop spokesman estimated the company lost £38,000 from the seven robberies at its shops and that 14 staff members were directly affected.

These were terrifying offences for the shop staff – one of whom was on duty during all three robberies at Kenilworth’s One Stop – as they were threatened by men brandishing weapons.
