Bitterly cold temperatures and snow could cause travel delays and disruption across the West Midlands, the Met Office is warning.

A yellow warning is in place from 14:00 today, with an amber warning in place from 04:00 tomorrow.

BBC Weather is warning of possibly hazardous conditions in southern England later in the week as a low pressure weather system moves up from the Bay of Biscay and hits the already "exceptionally cold air".

Two cars were stolen from a property in Kineton, Warwickshire, after thieves stole the keys from a home, police say.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a white van in the area at the time of the incident.

The mother of two boys killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Coventry has paid tribute to her sons.

Casper and Corey Platt-May, aged two and six, were hit by a car in the Stoke area of Coventry yesterday.

Corey was an "amazing boy", who "loved school more than any kid I know", said his mother Louise today.

"He never kept still, always had to be doing something and coming up with new ideas of things to do," she said.

"His main passion in life was his football. He has been playing for a local team since he was four but since the day he could hold a ball he was never without one.

"He will be deeply missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.”

She described brother Casper as a "cheeky little boy, always getting into trouble and driving his brothers crazy".

"He was so loving and caring and constantly told his family how much he loved them," she added.

"He loved walking everywhere with his wellies and splashing in the puddles. His smile could light up any room and he will be so so missed by all who knew him.”

Joel Fearon, from Coventry, has already competed in the two-man competition finishing 12th.

Fearon will go in one of the four-man bobs, while Ben Simons from Broseley, in Shropshire, is part of the other British team for the event.

Kim May described their deaths as an "absolute nightmare".

He said he arrived at the scene and "burst into tears". "I couldn't believe what I was seeing," he said.

"It was just like a war zone out here. It looked like a bomb had just exploded, it was terrible."

Kim May said Casper Platt-May, six, was "very energetic, and played a lot of football," whilst two-year-old Corey was "just a little live wire".

He also thanked the community and emergency services staff who attended the scene to help.

"Everything [the community] has done is brilliant.

"I'm just grateful and I just want to them them for everything they've done.

"Two lives were lost but police, paramedics everybody - they've done their utmost and I just want to thank them very much."

Coventry 'hit-and-run': Two to be questioned

Two people arrested after two brothers died in a suspected hit-and-run crash yesterday will be questioned today, police said.

The 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Officers said the boys were with their mother on MacDonald Road in the Stoke area of the city when they were struck by a black Ford Focus.

The road remained closed for several hours while emergency services were at the scene and investigations were carried out into the circumstances of the crash.

Warning for snow issued

Snow showers could affect the eastern part of the region from next Monday afternoon, causing travel disruption, the Met Office is warning.

Lorry fire causing long delays on M5

There are long delays and some trapped traffic on the M5 southbound after a lorry fire between junctions three and four.

The fire started at around 06:30, a mile south of Frankley Services.

The fire has been extinguished, police say, however the traffic is tailed-back on both sides of the carriageway.

Residents living near the scene of a Coventry crash, in which two children died, have been speaking about how people tried to help in the aftermath of the incident.

One man, Matthew, said after hearing the commotion he'd "rushed out with some blankets and a first aid box.. and helped until the ambulance came".

"There's a real sense of sadness in the road," he said. "This morning there's an eerie peace."

Another neighbour, who preferred not to be named, described the incident as "heartbreaking".

"I don't know how a family could get over something like this," he said.

Coventry hit-and-run: Hopes for little boy

Councillor Faye Abbott spoke to the BBC in the wake of the hit-and-run crash in which a two-year-old boy was killed and his brother, six, left in a critical condition.

Visibly upset, she said: "We'll all be very sad and thinking of the families of those who have been involved in this accident and hoping that the little boy makes a full recovery."
