Showery rain and hill snow will continue this evening but clear to the southeast during the first part of the night. The wind will ease allowing a widespread frost as temperatures drop to 0C (32F).
A fine start tomorrow with sunny spells. Wintry showers will develop through the morning and continue in places through the afternoon. Gentle westerly winds and a maximum temperature of 7C (45F).
The bandstand in Carlisle city centre is being dismantled after a survey found that it was no longer fit for purpose.
The structure was built in 2002 and is used regularly for performances by local music groups.
A city council spokesman said: "A survey
undertaken earlier this year concluded that more than £20,000 was needed to
repair the structure and enable its continued use.
"We are now removing it and will be looking at all options on how the city centre space will be used in the future."
It's not clear yet whether that would include a new bandstand or not.

Wind farm firm sets up engineering skills fund
The company behind a south Cumbrian offshore wind farm says it will offer a £100,000 skills fund to train engineers around Morecambe Bay.
The money provided by Dong Energy, which is building the
extension of Walney wind farm
, will fund scholarships for up to seven students to study engineering at Furness College.
The remainder of the money will be spent on two careers co-ordinators to work in schools and colleges around Barrow and on hardship grants for college students.

Council urged to refuse zoo's new licence

Poor veterinary care, poor record keeping, and a "refusal to take responsibility" for failings are all being given as reasons to reject a fresh application for a zoo license from the South Lakes Safari Zoo in Dalton-in-Furness.
Inspectors visited earlier this year, and say any progress that's being made is "seriously undermined" by the "deplorable" welfare standards in one aviary in particular.
The report also contains details of almost 500 animal deaths between 2013 and 2016.
The management style of the zoo's original owner, David Gill, is described as "intrusive", and it's in the areas he still controls that the inspectors say they found the more serious welfare issues.
The inspectors have recommended Barrow Borough Council refuses to grant a new licence.
A meeting will be held to decide on the matter next week.

Couple trying to change world through kindness after stabbing

Those are the words of Sally Roythorne, who says her and her partner Rob Plevin's
lives were changed forever after the couple were stabbed in their sleep in 2010.
House party guest, Matthew Lucas, left Rob and Sally
fighting for their lives when he attacked them at their home in
Brampton. They now live in Armathwaite.
Now, the couple are trying to change the world through
kindness by signing up for The Big Love Challenge.

A Cumbrian sailor is competing in an historic yacht race this week, which is taking place for the first time in 58 years.
The St Petersburg to Havana race, which was set up to promote business links between Cuba and the USA, was put on hold due to the US embargo.
Gareth Kelly, who's originally from south Cumbria, but now lives in California, is a member of the St. Louis Yacht Club which is taking part in the event.

Air ambulance crew get into the pancake spirit
The guys at the Great North Air Ambulance base in Cumbria are obviously keen cooks too.

Inspectors found a number of problems at South Lakes Safari Zoo where a keeper was killed in 2013.

Millions of UK eggs will temporarily lose their free-range status after hens were forced to spend weeks inside barns as part of emergency bird flu measures .
Since December, poultry has had to be kept indoors under government orders to prevent the spread of the disease.
Under European Union rules, if birds have been housed for more than 12 weeks they cannot be marketed as free range.
David Brass, director of The Lakes Free Range Eggs Company based near Penrith, said: "So far it's slight disruption.
"It's all about animal welfare and keeping our consumers informed about what we're doing. We don't want the disease in the country."
Storm damaged A591 contractors awarded
The firms who rebuilt the A591 between Keswick and Grasmere after a landslide during Storm Desmond have won a national award.
Kier Highways and Cubby Construction JV won the recognition from Highways England. They were among 130 entries in this year’s awards.

Carlisle United say talks with potential investor have ended

Carlisle United have announced that long-standing talks with a potential overseas investor have now ended .
In a statement released last night, the club said "a line had been drawn" 650 days after first announcing a "firm and genuine interest".
The identity of the potential investor was not revealed in the statement.
Carlisle United say they will now look to "facilitate new investment" with the help of CUOSC, its official supporters club.
