The police inspector investigating the disappearance of a missing West Cumbrian man says as time goes on "hope is diminishing".
Insp Laura Boyd says searches are continuing to find 23-year-old Nicholas Degraff who left Great Clifton at 04:30 GMT on Sunday to walk home to Workington but he never arrived.
He was last seen walking with his German Shepherd dog in Rosemary Gardens, Great Clifton, at about 05:00 - his dog was later found on the riverbank.
Divers have been searching the River Derwent and a helicopter has been used to search surrounding areas.

Mr Degraff is 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and with short, brown-coloured hair.
He has tattoos on his face and neck with spacer ear piercings.
He was wearing a black jacket, black jogging bottoms, work boots and carrying a grey-coloured drawstring shoulder bag.
Insp Boyd said: "Nicholas' family are so grateful for all the support they've received and are happy with all the efforts so far.
"They are beyond themselves with concern and are co-ordinating public searches for members of the public to get involved."

Christmas Day booster jabs an option, says health boss
People may need to get booster jabs on Christmas Day and
other festive public holidays to stop the spread of the omicron variant,
Cumbria’s director of public health has warned.
Colin Cox told BBC Radio Cumbria almost 200,000 people,
which is more than 40% of the county’s over-12 population, have had their
booster jab so far.
But with Boris Johnson saying he wants all boosters done by
the end of December, Mr Cox (pictured below) said it would be “immensely challenging” to “turn round
the other 200,000 in that timescale”.

Asked if people may need to get jabs on public holidays, including Christmas Day, Mr Cox said: “Given the numbers that have to be done I think that’s going to have to be an option.
“I can’t see how it would be possible to do it without offering somethings on Christmas public holidays.”
He said Cumbria’s first case of omicron was identified on 30 November, with numbers rising to 16 by 9 December and possibly as high as 30 to 50 over the weekend.
