There's a yellow warning of snow and ice in place until Thursday 12:00.

Outbreaks of sleet and snow, especially over higher ground, will slowly die out through Wednesday afternoon and evening but will leave the hazard of icy surfaces on Wednesday night.

The public should be aware of the continued risk of disruption to transport due to ice and snow.

Snake Pass closure

There's severe disruption in Glossop on the A57 Snake Pass, which has been

closed all day between the Royal Oak Inn and the Ladybower Reservoir.

Museum given amnesty guns

An air rifle, a starting gun and an antique pistol recovered during a firearms surrender in Derbyshire last year

are to go on display at the Nottingham's Galleries of Justice.

The weapons were handed over by police to the museum last week and will form part of a new exhibit focusing on gun crime.

Cash to fight fraud

Al Madinah: 'Dysfunctional' school's comeback

BBC News Online has more on Al-Madinah free school in Derby claiming it has come out of special measures.

The Muslim faith school was branded "chaotic and dysfunctional" by the government in October 2013 and threatened with having its funding cut if it didn't make significant improvements.

Shaun Barker hails 'miracle' return

Derby County club captain Shaun Barker has described his return to first-team training after nearly three years out injured as

"not far off a miracle".

has written to Derbyshire Police calling for it to rethink its decision to stop running an anti-crime fitness scheme for young people.

Ozbox, which teaches boxing skills, is coming to an end after a bid for lottery funding failed.

Hundreds of people have also signed an online petition urging police to keep it going but the force

has warned there will be no u-turn.

Al-Madinah 'out of special measures'

Derby's Al-Madinah free school says it has been taken out of special measures after more than a year.

The government intervened after inspectors identified serious failings in October 2013 and the secondary section of the school was closed permanently last summer.

Ofsted will publish its latest report on the school tomorrow.

Derby County first team coach Paul Simpson says new signings Raul Albentosa and Stephen Warnock have been making their mark in training ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie with Chesterfield.

Dales leisure centres are open

Derbyshire Dales District Council says all four of its leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth

opened on schedule this morning, but care is advised on all approach roads.

Bus lane fines begin

Drivers unlawfully using three bus lanes in Derby

are to start receiving fines from today.

The three routes, at Pentagon Island, Friar Gate and Siddals Road, will be monitored by CCTV cameras 24 hours a day with anyone caught being sent a £60 penalty charge notice.

iPro car vandalism: second arrest

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and bailed after

a car belonging to Nottingham Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi was damaged outside the iPro Stadium on Saturday.

The vandalism saw the Mercedes Benz's rear windscreen wiper and personalised number plate ripped off following the Derby v Forest game.

Another 19-year-old man arrested over the damage has also been bailed.
