  4. Teenagers make over Mr Potato Head

    Derbyshire County Council removed the large scale Mr Potato Head from the streets of Belper in 2001.

    The model was a gift from the twin town of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where the cartoon character was invented in 1952.

    The model, which is thought to be worth about £6,000, is currently being smartened up by teenagers in the town.

  9. New Chesterfield sports centre

    Chesterfield Borough Council posts: Work is progressing well on the new Queen's Park Sports Centre being built on the site of Queen's Park Annexe.

    The work is carried out by Morgan Sindall who also built the Arc Leisure Centre in Matlock.

    The new centre will open early next year and the current centre on Boythorpe Road will stay open until then.

  10. New lease of life for Mr Potato Head?

    What would you say if a huge fibreglass potato turned up in your town centre? Well, it's a phenomenon Belper's familiar with.

    In the early 2000s a giant likeness of Mr Potato Head - the American children's toy immortalised in the Toy Story films appeared in the middle of Belper.

    The statue's been rediscovered and is being refurbished by a youth group.

  11. McClaren: 'He should've had another year'

    We're asking you for your views on Steve McClaren's exit.

    Keith Turner emails: In my opinion, he should have had 1 more year, however I recall an interview Radio Derby ran with their counterparts that suggested it was felt that whilst at M'boro Steve was always looking for the next big thing.

    He adds: Paul Clement does bring further question marks to the situation, I do hope we aren't about to appoint another Phil Brown!

  12. Peregrines ringed

    The three peregrine chicks at Derby Cathedral were ringed this Sunday, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust posts on Facebook.

    If you want to get a little closer to the action, you can meet the group at the trust at the Cathedral Green on Saturday from 11:00.

    Why ring a bird? It means twitchers can see what is happening to birds in the places they live and how populations increase and decrease, according to the British Trust for Ornithology.

  14. '45 minutes to park'

    Royal Derby Hospital could get more car parking spaces after the hospital said it was a sticking point with its visitors.

    Natasha tweets: about time!! Queued for 45 min the other week to get a spot in carpark!

    The hospital trusts says that in comparison to the previous year 90,000 more cars were parked than in the last financial year. You can read the report here.

  18. Darley residents and students

    Derby City Council and the University of Derby are working together to try and bring build better relationships between young and old people.

    Daisy Guiliano, president of the students union said she decided to set-up the Age Exchange project to break negative stereotypes of young people.

    She says: "Darley has lots of students who live there and also one of the highest concentration areas of older people in the city. It's a no brainer these people should be matched together.

    "We're holding an event on 24 June between 1-3pm and we'll get groups of people together and it's up to them what they want to do."

  19. Motorcyclist fatal crash

    A 23-year-old motorcyclist has died after hitting a tree in Swadlincote yesterday.

    Derbyshire Police say Gregory Heath from Tamworth hit the tree at about 05:20 yesterday morning on Springfield Road. He died at the scene.

  23. Clement set to replace McClaren

    Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clement is set to replace Steve McClaren as Derby County head coach, BBC Derby Sport reports.

    McClaren was sacked on Monday following constant speculation about taking over at Newcastle, and Derby's failure to make the Championship play-offs.

    Clement, 43, has been number two to Carlo Ancelotti at Real since 2013 but the Italian was sacked on Monday.

    And Clement is now expected to take up his first managerial role this week.

    Derbyshire, 335-9 overnight, added a further 35 runs before being bowled out for 370, Matt Critchley ending on 41.

  28. 'I wasn't looking to leave'

    Steve McClaren says it was not his decision to leave the club.

    After being told his contract had been terminated he said; "While we were all unhappy with the way the season ended, I still believe real progress was being made.

    A survey has found that nearly a quarter of GP consultations in the East Midlands are down to tiredness and fatigue.

    Of these consultations nearly one in ten is thought to be down to not drinking enough water, the Natural Hydration Council reveals.

    Official NHS guidance says adults should drink 8-10 glasses of fluid a day.

  30. Age Exchange

    More than £3,000 has been given to a new scheme in Derby with the hope of building better relationships between two generations in the city.

    The Age Exchange project aims to get students together with older locals in the Darley Ward in a bid to tackle the problem they say many older people have with loneliness.

  31. More parking for hospital?

    More car parking spaces could soon be created at the Royal Derby Hospital.

    A performance report discussed by the Trust Board for Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says patients are experiencing problems with finding parking spaces and have done since the issue was raised in 2009.

    The report says the issue of parking is one of the stand out negative issues and is currently looking at submitting a planning application to increase capacity.

    McClaren took charge of Derby County in September 2013 taking the side to the play off finals in May 2014.

    The last few months has seen continued speculation linking the former England boss with the Newcastle job - something that many fans believe effected the teams promotion push this season.

    In a statement the club says the decision follows "a thorough review of the 2014/15 season by the club's Board of Directors" and the search is now underway to find a successor. The statement goes on to wish Steve McClaren well for the future.

    The Championship club announced last night that McClaren's contract has been terminated.

    The Rams said they had made the decision following a "thorough review of the 2014-15 season".
