Cellar full of film props up for auction

An original Dalek from the 1960s Doctor Who films is part of an auction in Derby this week.

Auctioneer James Lewis says it's part of a collection which includes props from the Borrowers and Alice in Wonderland.

Coroner aware of Ramathon runner's death

The coroner's office for Derby and Derbyshire says it has been made aware of the death of a 38-year-old man who collapsed and died at the Ramathon in Derby.

The cause of death isn't yet known.

Pair remanded over man's stab death

Two men charged with murdering a man in Nottingham have been remanded in custody.

Junaid Farrukh, 21, from Derby, and 18-year-old Mohamud Alasow, from Nottingham, appeared before magistrates today following the death of Aqib Mazhar, who was stabbed to death in Forest Fields on Wednesday.

The two men are due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court tomorrow.

RSPCA: Cat cafes cause stress

This is the RSPCA's viewpoint on cat cafes: 

"The RSPCA is concerned about the growing trend in cat cafes, which we do not approve, and as such we have not approved a cat cafe at the Wardwick in Derby.

"Our main concerns include the stress caused by unfamiliar strangers wanting to stroke and handle the cats, and the concerns of a number of cats living in one place, which we do not recommend.

"We would recommend people volunteering at their nearest rescue centre, if they can't have a cat themselves."

For some it's the purr-fect setting for a drink in relaxed surrounding -. Derby has its first cat cafe, Lady T's, which opened in the Wardwick this weekend.

But the RSPCA has concerns about the growing number of cat cafes in this country.

In a statement, the charity said it would be "quite a challenge to meet the welfare needs of cats in this type of environment".

Ambulance service on Ramathon death

A spokesperson from East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11:14 on Sunday morning to attend a man who had collapsed and stopped breathing in a car park around the iPro stadium.

"We sent a Dr and ambulance to the emergency and transported the patient to Royal Derby Hospital. We understand the patient later died. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Cheryl Willey from Sawley was running in the Ramathon yesterday told us conditions were very difficult.

She said: "There were a lot of people that had started to walk.

"I noticed a lady that had collapsed under a bridge. I could see she had got an oxygen mask on at one point. 

"I don't know what happened to her, and that was before I found out about the chap who's unfortunately died."
