Derby City Council said: "We are deeply disappointed that Noel Baker School is not improving as rapidly as we would like to see.

"Our ambition is clear in that we want all young people to receive a great quality education. We are continuing to work closely with the school and hold both the leaders and governors to account.

School told to improve pupil behaviour quickly

Inspectors say 'rapid improvement' is needed in the behaviour of children at a Derby school.

Ofsted says Noel Baker School in Alvaston, which has been classed as under-performing, isn't improving quickly enough and teaching is 'inconsistent'.

The school is due to become an academy in September.

Tom Webb murder trial: Friend thought they'd walk away

A jury's heard the best friend of Tom Webb who was stabbed to death in Derby city centre thought they'd all walk away from the situation.

Zayill Gillespie, 24, told Nottingham Crown Court how he, Tom and other friends had drunk around seven pints before a fight on East Street.

Mr Gillespie told the prosecution he thought 'it would be fine' but Tom was fatally stabbed in the fight. 

The 16-year-old defendant, who can't be named for legal reasons, denies murder. The trial continues.

Police called to school over 'aggressive' eight-year-old

Tom Webb murder trial resumes

A murder trial's resumed today into the death of a Derby man who was stabbed in the city centre.

Tom Webb died after being stabbed in St Peter's Street in January.

Could Toyota quit Burnaston?

Earlier I mentioned research in Japan suggesting Toyota could close its Derbyshire plant at Burnaston if the UK left the European single market.

In a statement, the firm's said: "Going forward we will closely monitor and analyse the impact on our business operations in the UK, and how we can maintain competitiveness and secure sustainable growth together with the UK automotive industry and other stakeholders.

A Derby teenager and a Leicester man have pleaded not guilty via video-link at Birmingham Crown Court to shooting dead company director Ahktar Javeed.

Lemar Wali, an 18-year-old student from Osmaston Park Road, spoke only to confirm his name and enter a plea, and was remanded in custody.
