Fly infestation investigation to continue

The Environment Agency says the removal of waste from a site in Derby is under control, despite Shows Waste Management missing a deadline today

Emma Williams from the agency said: "The suspension remains in place, so they can't take in waste, but the company is still working at removing the waste from site and we are in contact with them to ensure that continues to happen.

Fly crisis: 'Significant progress made'

The Environment Agency has decided to comment about the waste site in Derby before today's deadline, saying: “We appreciate that we set a tight deadline and at times during the process we believed it would be met.

"Moving this amount of waste was always going to be a huge logistical exercise for the operators and significant progress has been made.

Derbyshire-based firm Sports Direct has reported an 8.4% drop in pre-tax profits, blaming tough conditions on the high street and negative publicity about its working practices.
