  3. Royal Shrovetide Football: Victory for Down'Ards

    It was a win for the Down'Ards on the first day of the Royal Shrovetide Football in Ashbourne yesterday.

    Fitness instructor Tom Boulton-Lear goaled the ball at 21.30.

    The game, which has been played since at least the 17th Century, takes place on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

    It involves two sides competing to move a ball to posts at opposing ends of the town - three miles apart.

  4. DNA found in rape investigation

    Detectives investigating the rape and attempted murder of a woman have the DNA of the attacker.

    The victim was attacked as she walked along Queen's Avenue in Ilkeston on Sunday, 26 November.

    Derbyshire police said they can now start eliminating people from the investigation and hope it will encourage people to come forward

    Officers have also released images of several people who were in the area at the time and could help with the investigation.

  7. Watch: Blaze hits derelict building

    This was the scene of a large fire at a derelict five-storey factory in Ashby de la Zouch last night.

    Firefighters are in the process of damping down this morning.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called just after 19:30 last night and crews from Derbyshire were also brought in to help.

    The fire service said the fire started on the first floor.

  8. Anti-abortion vigil held outside hospital

    Campaigners are starting to arrive outside the abortion clinic at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

    Members from the 40 Days for Life are planning to stay throughout Lent.

    This is the third year the group has staged the vigil, calling for abortion to be abolished.

    Louise Aldred from the group, said: "The idea is to pray for 40 days during Lent at places where abortions are carried out to draw attention to violence and tragedy of abortion."

    In a statement last month, Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, which runs the QMC, said: "Any protest that impacts adversely on patients, visitors or staff will not be supported anywhere on site."

  10. Patrols stepped up after stabbing

    Officers have stepped up patrols after a man was stabbed in Wollaton.

    Nottinghamshire Police say the man is in a serious but stable condition at the Queen's Medical Centre.

    It happened on Monday in Dentdale Drive.

    Insp Gordon Fenwick, from Nottinghamshire Police, said it's an "isolated incident".

    Firefighters have spent the night tackling this blaze at a derelict five storey building in Ashby De La Zouch.

    At least five crews have attended the scene of the fire on Burton Road.

    They are now in the process of damping down. No injuries have been reported.
