  1. Missing dementia man, 84, found

    An elderly man with dementia who went missing from his home in Falmouth on Tuesday has been found after a search lasting 25 hours.

    Lifeboats, a helicopter and coastguard rescue tams were all involved in the search for 84-year-old Barrie Sweet.

    He was found on Wednesday evening a short distance inland and was taken to hospital for a check up.

  2. Surge in coastal deaths last year

    More people were killed on the South West coast in 2018 than the year before.

    The RNLI revealed that 25 people died last year, compared with 18 in 2017 - and 80% were male.

    People are being urged to follow its advice as it launches its Respect the Water campaign at Perranporth this morning - one of Cornwall's busiest beaches.

    The charity's putting last year's increase down to the surge in the number of people at the coast due to the record hot summer - but said on average the number of coastal deaths is continuing to fall.

  3. Fire service tackles Exeter house fire

    Fire crews are currently dealing with a house fire in Exeter.

    Several crews are at the scene on Farm Close and say the fire involves an electric shower in a first-floor bathroom.

    There are no reports of any injuries.

  4. Suspected fudge burglar arrested in Plymouth

    A man has been arrested after a Plymouth shop was broken into and fudge was taken.

    It happened at Roly’s Fudge on the Barbican between 00:50 and 01:00 on Wednesday.

    Staff said the suspect smashed a window and stole some freshly made chocolate fudge.

    A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody.

  5. South West weather: Cloudy, mist and fog

    It will be a generally cloudy day with further mist and isolated fog patches in some exposed coastal areas and over high ground.

    The cloud could also be thick enough to produce a little light drizzle at times, although in some areas, in particular to the lee of high ground, some bright or even sunny spells are possible.

  6. Race hate crimes against children rise by 58%

    There's been a sharp increase in the number of race hate crimes against children in Devon and Cornwall.

    New figures from the NSPCC show there were 141 race hate crimes involving under-18s in the year to March 2018 - that's a 58% increase in 3 years.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said "No one should be expected to tolerate this behaviour and we would encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses it to come forward".

  7. Hatty the cat walks home after rescue effort

    A pet cat that was stuck on a railway bridge for six days, sparking a major rescue operation, has walked home.

    Five-year-old Hatty got trapped on the 30ft (9m) section of the Royal Albert Bridge, which connects Plymouth and Saltash, on Friday.

    Firefighters spent hours trying to rescue her while Network Rail planned to close the line to help save her.

    Owner Kirsty Howden says she's "overjoyed" to have Hatty home.
