  2. Balloon sculpture record attempt under way in Winchester

    A bid to break the Guinness World Record for the largest modelling balloon sculpture by an individual is under way in Winchester.

    Artist Ben Field is attempting to construct a 2.96m (85ft) by 12.2m (40ft) balloon waterfall in The Brooks Shopping Centre, using more than 10,000 balloons.

    He said he hoped the piece, which will take about a week to build, will "take people’s breath away.” 

    David Baker of Cincinnati, in the US, is the current record holder.

    His sculpture of a giant bat hanging upside down, created in 2015, used 3,961 balloons and measured 21.91m (72ft) by 11.22m (37ft).

  3. Portsmouth's promotion to League One to be celebrated at Southsea Common

    Portsmouth will celebrate promotion to League One with an event at Southsea Common on Sunday, the club has said.

    Hosted by Portsmouth City Council, it will see fans, players and club officials come together to recognise the promotion after four years in League Two, following the team's victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane last month.

    The event, which will run from 13:00 BST to 14:10, will include live entertainment and an official city commendation from the mayor, but no open-top bus parade.

  6. New chain ferry in position

    The new Cowes floating bridge has been fitted to its chains.

    It replaces the previous vessel which was retired in January after 40 years of service, leaving drivers with a 10-mile diversion via Newport.

    The Isle of Wight Council said the new ferry, built in Wales by Mainstay Marine, would come into service in mid-May, two months behind schedule.

  9. Breaking'Balcony fall' death 'no longer suspicious'

    The death of a woman who was found dead after reportedly falling from a balcony in Southampton is no longer being treated as suspicious, police have said.

    The 37-year-old's body was discovered close to Ocean Village, Southampton, at about 16:30 BST on Monday. 

    A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released and will face no further action, Hampshire Constabulary said. 

    The force added it was preparing a file for the coroner.

  10. A31 death crash driver named

    A man who died in a crash on the A31 at the weekend has been named as 22-year-old Connor Heath Johnson, from Ringwood.

    Mr Johnson was driving one of two cars involved in the collision in Poulner Hill in the early hours of Sunday.

    Police have released an image of a man wanted in connection with a sex assault on a woman in Westover Road, Bournemouth.

  13. Woman rescued after falling on rocks

    An elderly woman had to be rescued after falling on rocks in Poole Harbour.

    Poole lifeboat was called along with paramedics after a passer-by spotted the woman on the water's edge near Dorset Sailing Club at about 09:00.

    The woman was moved on to a spinal board and taken to hospital by ambulance.  

  14. BreakingBody recovered in harbour search

    A body has been recovered from Weymouth Harbour after emergency services were called yesterday to help a man seen in the water.

    A search operation was launched on Tuesday afternoon amid concern for the man's welfare.

    Dorset Police said the body, found today, was believed to be of a man in his 20s.

    The death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin has been informed.

  16. Wareham Surgery bans advanced GP appointments

    A GP surgery in Dorset has stopped patients from booking advanced appointments due to a lack of doctors

    Wareham Surgery said its "revised system" comes after one GP went off on long-term sickness with a broken hip and another resigned in March. 

    It said a lack of response to a GP vacancy meant it could only offer on-the-day appointments, which can only be booked during certain hours. 

    Speaking in the Bournemouth Echo, one patient described it as a "crisis".
