  2. Appeal after serious Christmas Day assault in Weymouth

    Detectives in Dorset are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 50s was seriously assaulted in Weymouth on Christmas Day.

    The victim was walking on Dorchester Road near the Marks and Spencer garage at about 02:00 GMT when he was almost involved in a collision with a grey or silver car that did not have its headlights on.

    He gestured at the vehicle and a few minutes later as he walked further along the road he was assaulted from behind with a blunt weapon.

    He suffered cuts and bruises to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment. The male offender is described as white, aged in his late teens or early 20s, wearing a hooded top, possibly light grey in colour.

  3. Appeal after lorry and bicycle crash

    Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the A40 Witney bypass in Oxfordshire in the early hours.

    A white Renault articulated lorry, travelling westbound near the junction with the A415 Standlake Road, was involved in a collision with a cyclist at 03:55 GMT.

    The rider of the bicycle, a 23-year-old man, died at the scene. The lorry driver was uninjured.

    No arrests have been made in connection with the collision.

  5. Newbury Dogs Trust has record-breaking 2018

    The Dogs Trust Newbury branch has had a record-breaking year, rehoming more dogs than ever before.

    In 2018, the centre in Hamstead Marshall found new homes for 260 dogs - 30 more than the previous year - after reopening in January following a complete refurbishment.

    The trust's Nicki Barrow believes the new facilities have made a difference.

    She said: "Every kennel now has underfloor heating... a house set up as a real-life living situation so we can really assess the dogs and see how they are going to behave when they go to their new homes."

  7. Teenagers arrested after man pelted with rocks in front of family

    A man who was walking in a park with his family was injured after rocks were thrown at him following an altercation with a group of teenagers.

    The man, who is in his 30s, was with his partner and two young children at Hollybank Recreation Ground, Emsworth, Hampshire, on Wednesday.

    The altercation involved five or six youths aged between 13 and 16, one of whom was riding a mini-motorcycle around the park.

    The rocks caused an injury to his eye and he needed stitches at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

    A 13-year-old boy from Emsworth, a 14-year-old boy from Southbourne in West Sussex, and a 15-year-old boy also from Southbourne have since been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and released while investigations continue.
