  2. MP says junction 'threatens green belt'

Bournemouth councillors are due to meet later to decide on an application to build a new link road and junction from the A338 Spur Road.

But, whatever the outcome, the authority will not be able to issue a decision notice because the application has been referred to the Secretary of State by Bournemouth East MP Tobias Ellwood.

Mr Ellwood says the scheme "threatens our green belt" but the council says it would ease congestion and create jobs.

Head of planning Mark Axford said if the application was approved, as recommended, a decision notice could not be issued until the Secretary of State had decided whether to call it in.
