  2. Professor of Poetry sought for uni

    Nominations are open for the post of Oxford University's Professor of Poetry.

    A new poet is appointed at the university every four years.

    They will replace Simon Armitage in the role who was appointed in 2015.

    Previous holders of the post include John Keble, Matthew Arnold, W.H. Auden, Robert Graves, Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon and Christopher Ricks.

  6. Hotel rapist jailed for 12 years

    Lee Hogben

    A man who raped a woman at a Bournemouth hotel after meeting her there for sex has been jailed for 12 years.

    Lee Hogben, 35, attacked the woman after initially having consensual sex with her at the Royal Bath Hotel in January 2018.

    He was also found guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court of two sexual assaults.

    Previously he pleaded guilty to offences including threatening to damage property, disclosing private photographs, breaching a restraining order and malicious communications.

    Hogben, of Windham Road, will spend an additional six years on licence after his release from prison.

    He has been banned from contacting people on adult or dating sites and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

  9. WW2 Spitfire pilot's logbook sells at auction

    The logbook of one of the female pilots killed in the Second World War has sold at auction for £2,900.

    Lesley Cairns Murray was a member of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) based at White Waltham near Maidenhead and delivered Spitfires, Hurricanes, Swordfish, Defiants and Seafires.

    The 28-year-old was killed in a crash in Taplow while flying a Hudson Aircraft on 20 April 1945.

    The logbook easily beat its estimate of £800-£1,200.

  11. Woman critical in hospital after Reading crash

    A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Reading.

    The accident happened at about 15:30 on Sunday when a white BMW 320 and a silver Audi A3 collided at the junction of the A329 and A33.

    A female passenger of the BMW was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

    The drivers of both cars sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

  12. Family pays tribute to driver killed in tree crash

    The family of a man who was killed when the car he was driving left the road and crashed into trees have paid tribute to him.

    Thomas High, 29, was found dead in his silver Peugeot 206 by the A331 near North Camp in Farnborough, in the early hours of 17 April.
