  17. Heath trusts merger: Union concern about job losses

A union fears a planned merger of two health trusts in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire will lead to "serious disruption to staff, and job losses".

Gloucestershire Care Services and the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust will begin by appointing a joint chair and chief executive.

The 2gether NHS Foundation Trust has 2,300 staff and runs mental health and learning disabilities services. It also runs inpatient units in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Hereford, including the Stonebow unit (pictured).

Unison say its priority will be to "ensure that post-merger staff will still be employed on NHS contracts, with decent pay and conditions".

"At first glance the proposals would appear a better option than bringing in private firms to run community services," a spokesman said.

Quote Message: Before staff can be reassured, their unions need detail of what the trusts are planning and what this means for individuals, jobs and services." from Francis O'Ryan Unison
